E4 Spec. Matasha McKinnon of Ohio, left, talks with former Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz and Lt. (j.g.) Rachel Engler during Friday's dinner for wounded servicemembers at the Italian Embassy in Washington. |
My Personal Thoughts on this Dinner IHO our Wounded U.S. Troops at the Italian Embassy in Washington D.C. on Friday 13 July 2007.
Per the request of the Ambassador of Italy to the USA, Giovanni Castellaneta, It was honor to have been asked to serenade our Wounded again this year.
Last Friday evening MSG Joseph Holt, pianist and I entertained our wounded Brothers and Sisters (Soldiers & Marines) at the Italian Embassy. A Dinner IHO OUR Wounded on Foreign Soil!
This selfless service on behalf of Ambassador Giovanni Castellaneta and Mrs. Lila Castellaneta speaks Volumes about who they are as human beings and about the Friendship between Italy and The United States of America.
It was Very Important that MSG Holt and I were there on Friday night as Soldier-Musicians to offer a sense of Peace and Calm in the midst of all of the Emotional, Mental and Physical Storms these great American Patriots are enduring.
Let us face the truth; they have an uphill battle in their recovering. In every way you can think! Not only physical. I believe Music plays (Especially Vocal Music) such an Intricate part in that healing process.
The POWER of Language. Words, Lyrics, Poetry set to music.
MSG Holt and I are so enriched by having had the opportunity to contribute our God given talents to help bring some level of healing to these great Marines and Soldiers.
It was an extraordinary evening filled with so many emotions. Laughter and Tears!
MSG Joseph Holt accompanied me on the beautiful Steinway & Sons Grand Piano with great passion and all heart.
I beleive that our contribution as a Team, Made a HUGE Difference for so many hurting American Soldiers and Marines, their spouses, their children and their parents. And for the many Volunteers who attended who put in countless hours daily at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center in bringing healing to these American Patriots.
Army Strong!
